DutyDecoder alternative: what UK importers should check

Choosing a DutyDecoder alternative or the best UK import duty calculator? Compare free tools by UK code checks, source dates, quote gaps, VAT and coverage limitations.

Free is a real advantage

DutyDecoder’s official calculator advertises free, no-signup AI HS matching and duty/tax estimates across 50+ countries. Its about page describes a global focus. Checked 1 November 2026. We cannot claim to be cheaper than free, and we have not independently validated its accuracy, permanent result retention, reasoning, confidence or specialist-support coverage.

The best UK import duty calculator depends on the order

A global calculator can be useful for an early estimate. For a GB declaration, the first six HS digits alone are not enough: check the full UK import commodity code and measures for the origin. DutySpecialist’s focus is a dated UK Trade Tariff source, transparent cash outlay and practical questions about a supplier quote, rather than a claim to replace every international tool.

Example: a cheap quote with expensive gaps

Illustrative scenario, not a tariff quote: a supplier gives a goods price and “FOB” but no international freight or destination charges. No honest delivered-cost result can be complete from that alone. Ask for freight and insurance to the UK border, who pays clearance and local delivery, and the evidence for origin. Then calculate supported amounts and keep the unknowns visible. No assumed duty percentage is required for this checklist.

What DutySpecialist provides—and what it does not

The free calculator and Quote Risk Check work without registration. Text-PDF extraction stays in your browser, requires editable review and does not create a public result page. You can download your own report. When available, the AI classifier displays stated GRI reasoning and an AI-generated confidence score, not a guarantee. A £29 Specialist Verify order is offered; confirm scope and turnaround by email first.

We do not provide CDS export, saved audit trails, permanent hosted result pages or multi-product classification. Photos and scanned invoices are unsupported. Excise, anti-dumping, unsupported rate types and Northern Ireland are not calculated. Our 10/month Free classification allowance is advertised but not yet metered. Those limits matter more than calling ourselves “best”.

Official checks before choosing a code

Use GOV.UK commodity-code guidance and the UK Trade Tariff. Finding a code in the tariff does not prove your product belongs in it. For binding certainty, consider an Advance Tariff Ruling.

Check a UK code and access the classifier, prepare classification details, or compare SimplyDuty pricing. See data provenance and limits.
